Dr. Lerdrak misunderstood that every activity need be approved by SEAOHUN Foundation board. In fact, those should be approved by the SEAOHUN Executive Board.
Formation and Approval of 2 sets of SEAOHUN committees.
• Prof. Hassim asked the SEAOHUN Executive committee to set up:
- Scholarship Planning and Approval Committee, proposed Dr. Pratap or THOHUN chairman as member.
- Activity Development and Evaluation Committee: This is to formulate strategies of SEAOHUN or each country’s network. Dr. Saengduen was appointed into this committee
They were approved by the Executive Board.
We had informed Dr. Hassim that we would like to obtain an official notification that it is Thailand's turn for the next SEAOHUN chairmanship. After getting official letter, THOHUN would nominate a person to become the next SEAOHUN chairman.
THOHUN-NCO staff must understand correctly the structure of SEAOHUN and must not be confused about these committees.
Dr. Saengduen conveyed information from Prof. Dennis Carroll (USAID Director)
Prof. Carroll mentioned that:-
Emergences of Ebola and MER-CoV are failure and grand challenges of mankind.
Partnership or multi-sectorial collaboration is promising instrument that SEAOHUN/ THOHUN is expected to be strengthen and used to solve such grand challenges.
Upon future increase in USAID support to USD 14 million, challenges of SEAOHUN would expand to Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, called non-robust countries. But in the first few years, we should recruit them in our workshops as trainees.
Prof. Carroll wanted us to talk about new investment on antibiotic multi-drug resistant. He said we don't focus only on zoonotic diseases. The investment is not for research, but our job is to prepare students to have more experience on anti-microbial resistance (AMR), such as to join conference about the issue or participate in the hand on workshop.
Aj. Irwin asked, "How many students would be funded?"
Dr. Saengduen replied that SEAOHUN proposed 20 scholarships.
THOHUN proposes 7 scholarships for hand-on workshops (of AMR, those of P& R and PREDICT) and international conference in year 2016.
For the year 2 work plan, we had submitted the document to Kaylee. In one activity, #1 we proposed setting up a TELI workshop. Right now, collaboration with Tufts University will involve One Health workforce team from Tufts. Tufts team has already recognize this activity as theirs also.
