PCB analysis and quantification PCBs trapped with plugs were extracted with 150 ml acetone. The extract was transferred to hexane and thenconcentrated to 5 ml by using a rotary evaporator. PCBs in soil samples were extracted by following the alkali digestion method (Wakimoto et al., 1971) and were cleaned up by Silica gel column chromatography.Aliquots of capacitor oil samples were diluted with hexane. After all extract solutions were cleaned up with 5% of fuming sulfuric acid, they were submitted to congener specific PCB quantification by using a GC/ECDaccording to the method of Boonyathumanondhetal.(1995). In this method, hexane solution of equivalent mixture of KC-300, 400, 500 and 600 was used as a quantification standard. High Resolution Gas Chromatography conditions were as follows: a Hewlett Packard 5890 gas chromatograph equipped with a splitlessinjector, a pulsed 63Ni electron capture detector and a capillary column, 30 m length x 0.25 mm i.d., SE-54
