Twoseparatemodelsofexistingandsuggesteddesignsi.e.,four fingerspole-pieceandsix fingerspolepiece,wereevaluatedusing finite element method inorderto assess in-service stresses. A two-dimensional axisymmetric solid approachwas utilizedto modelthe components. Each model was comprised of discretizing quadratic elements having same mesh size (i.e., 7mm at which mesh independency was achieved), however the two models were discretized with 2100 and 2900 elements for original and modified components, respectively. Data of original design was used to generate model geometry and as a reference for suggested design. Mechanical properties of the pole-piece material (in annealed condition) used for the simulation are listed in Table 2.
