the 79 isolates and reference strains examined in the
study, the 18 reference strains used in the study, the Lactobacillus sake/Lactobacillus
curvatus component of the study (29) and the Leuconostoc component of the
study (31), which included Lactobacillus confusus (DSM 20196) since this species is
closely related to the leuconostocs (Collins et al., 1991). In each case, analyses
were performed on the six most variable CFAs (based on the coefficient of
variation for individual fatty acids) for each group examined, and used to determine
the relationship between strains.
