The Power to believe in, trust in and love God is beyond natural power
Sanctifying grace is the reason why we can experience faith, hope and love.
Faith
Faith is a supernatural gift by which we freely accept Divine Revelation as interpreted and taught by the church.
Five sins against faith:
Voluntary Doubt: Chose to doubt voluntary and stay there without an open mind.
Schism: Refusal to accept and submit to what the pope and bishop says.
Heresy: When you speak out against
Apostasy: Total repudiation and opposition of the faith.
Atheism: Denying God’s existence
Hope
Hope is the theological virtue by which one looks forward to the happiness of eternal life with God.
Sins against hope:
Despair
Presumption
Presumption is the sin of
A. Expecting salvation without any personal effort
B. Trusting solely in ones own efforts to be saved without God’s aid.
Why is it a sin?
Because of our pride, our ego that can separate us.
Charity / Love
Charity is the theological virtue by which a Christian loves God above all things and his or her neighbor as him/herself.
Sins against Charity:
Indifference: Lack of commitment or indifference to Christ’s teachings
Ingratitude: No thankfulness. Failure to recognize and acknowledge God.
Luke warmness: No love in following Christ. Neither hot nor cold.
Spiritual sloth: You know what you should be doing but you choose not to.
Hatred of God: Resentment
Virtue of Religion
The virtue of religion is the prayerful actions of offering God praise, honor and the atonement he deserves.
4 kinds of Prayer: ACTS
Adoration: Worship. I glorify your holy name!
Contrition: Appeal for mercy.
Thanksgiving: Gratitude.
Supplication (Petitions): Placing our desires before the Lord
Sins against Religion
Idolatry: Worship due to God alone paid to images, objects or people.
Superstition: Belief or practice that offers improper worship.
Divination: Use of occult powers in an attempt to predict the future or obtain information.
Magic: Seeks occult forces through ritual to obtain good or evil.
Irreligion: Disrespect and mockery of religion
Satanic Worship: Worshiping Satan
Veneration of images of God and saints
Why do Catholics do this? To show respect to the parson the image represents, not the image itself.
Is it idolatry? Nope.
