4.3. Culturability and potential functional diversity of the soil microbial community
The numbers of CFUs were highest for the three accelerated treatments (compost, sludge and manure), which had 2e3 times higher level of N compared to all the other treatments. But also the level of C input seemed to be important for the number of CFUs, as there was a trend of increase in CFU with increase in accumulated C input (Fig. 3). CFU in the human urine treated soil was significantly lower than in accelerated sludge and accelerated compost, but also lower than the unfertilized control, indicating that human urine somehow is limiting the microbial population in soil.
