1. Compare evacuation plan against observed emergency exits.
2. If there are two emergency exits located along the same wall, ask facility management to
explain why (i.e. rest of the walls are structural and cannot be penetrated).
3. Walk along pathways to emergency exits and assess whether there is an alternative pathway
in case the first one is obstructed or unavailable; and
4. If there is a finding regarding the above referenced emergency exit requirements, include the
following information in the audit report:
a. Distance between emergency exits that are not in compliance with above-referenced
emergency exit requirements.
b. If the facility is provided with fire sprinklers.
c. Whether each emergency exits has an “Evacuation Pathway” independent of the other
exit.
d. Number of workers on the floor in which the above-referenced emergency exit finding is
located; and
e. Layout plan of the floor that is in violation of the above-referenced emergency exit
