Future Work
Based on the results of this study, we will design prototypes and variations of user-centered interfaces and interactions that use techniques that apply push information and enable pull queries, and provide the appropriate type of information to the user (what vs.
why). With a refined understanding of our hypotheses about the key variables that would predict the appropriate mode and explanation for automated car actions (the influence of push/pull, and the effect of what/why), and design prototypes that exemplify good and bad interaction designs, we would then proceed to conduct a controlled experiment that assess the participant’s situational awareness, user experience, and trust.
