This letter is long overdue. I never struggle with words, but I barely know where to begin.
I wish you could see her. She is amazing in short. Her beauty is hard to take in, it's true. Her eyes look black like her hair until the sun is shining brightly, then you can see they are amber in color. Her hair is shiny and silky like so many people of her heritage. She has a tiny cowlick on the crown of her head, which isn't even noticeable, but one day she decided to cut it off at the root. She looked like Alfalfa when it was growing back in. I doubt you know who that is. :) She's on the tall side too, with long legs and for some reason has had rock hard abs since she was around two.
When we went to China to get her, I was watching a Jackie Chan movie on tv and always wondered if he was her birth dad. lol. I have a crazy imagination. But as she grew, I began to believe it. She can do anything... I mean absolutely anything she wants to do. I swear she could fly if she set her mind to it. She does flips through the air, plays the drums and dances like a pro... it really speaks of DNA. She's as fast as the boys. I get so emotional thinking about her... yes, she's amazing. She has oodles of spunk. She says I call her sassy, but she said that's not a good thing. She's thinking of the rebellious kind of sass. She has that too. She is strong-willed like no child you've ever seen, but then I suppose it's hard for superman when his parents tell him to stay on the ground. I could tell you some stories.
I don't know what you've been through... why you had to give her up, but I'm so sorry. I prefer to think that it tore your heart out. Not because I want you to suffer! But because when someone has to part with something of incomparable value, you want them at least to know that they once held something magnificent in their hands.
She's funny. When she tells a joke, she keeps a straight face. I guess she gets that from me. I never meant to teach my kids that, but they learn by watching. She wraps her daddy and brothers around her little finger... all men love her. Beauty is a powerful thing... I'm sure she gets that from you. I carry a bat. But you know what? She can be compassionate and kind too. I think she gets that from her big brother Sam. They are always together. The day she was born, you could never have known there was already a Sam in the world ready to protect and guide her. She has an older sister who is grown, but when they're together, they meet in the middle and become teenagers, painting their nails, watching music videos and looking at clothes and shoes. She is a lot like her brother Spencer who is also grown. God knew what He was doing putting a gap between their ages. No mother on earth would have survived them both at the same time. She calls him Pumpkin Pie.
I want to thank you... for giving us this gift. I wish someday you could meet her though I know I'd be jealous. It's my nature, but whatever. It would be worth it to fill in the puzzle pieces for her. She knows you had to leave her in a park, on some steps, not far from the orphanage. I told her I thought for sure you were standing behind a tree, waiting for an officer to pick her up and take her to safety. We have videos of when we went to China to bring her home. She watches them over and over again. There's a part where I'm holding her for the first time and she snuggles into me. In the video I say "It's like she just needed a mommy." and it makes us cry every time we see it. Thank you for bringing her into this world. You could have removed her presence long before she arrived, but for whatever reason, you didn't and I swear to you, the world is a better place with her in it. I'm forever in your debt. You're in my prayers. God bless you.
