There were significant differences in plant
height between treatments (Table 2). The
tallest plants were produced by ginger
cultivated in 100% coir dust with an average
height of 123 ± 23 cm and the lowest were
those cultivated in mixture of 30% coir
dust and 70% burnt paddy husks (average
height 105 ± 8 cm). Treatment containing
100% coir dust produced the tallest plants
compared to burnt paddy husks and mixtures
of both substrates. This could be due to the
higher porosity of coir dust compared tothe other treatments. This higher porosity
property drained out the excess fertiliser
solution between the irrigation schedules
more quickly.
