Several researchers have commented that workaholics devote a considerable
amount of time to work activities (e.g., Machlowitz, 1980; Oates, 1971; Snir &
Harpaz, 2006). Consequently, workaholics do not spend much time interacting
with family members and friends (Ng et al., 2007). Nakken (1996) mentioned
that, in general, individuals who suffer from addictions have fewer meaningful
friends the longer their addiction lasts.
