mboyna
Other names: Ambonya, Narrah
Latin name: Pterocarpus Indicus
Density: ca. 650 kg/m³
Description:
A deciduous tree that grows in South-Eastern Asia and Souther and Central Africa. Its wood varies in colour from yellow and gold-brown, to red or even violet. Thanks to its intensely twisted fibers Ambonya frequently comes in beautifully figured variants (eg. Ambonya Burl). Botanically closely related to Padauk, although it is much more decorative. Its mechanical and esthetic properties makes this wood a perfect choice for musical instruments. In case guitars it is mostly used for tops and headstock fronts.
Ambonya has well balanced and rich tone with accentuated middle freq and distinct attack.
