It doesn't snow in Thailand. It's not quite cold enough, even in the mountains.
Sometimes it looks like it snows, however.
Last Sunday, for example, there was a storm in Phu Rua district of Loei district. Heavy rain started falling, but high in the sky low temperatures caused the rain freeze to form hail – big hail.
From a distance, it looked like snow, but up close you could see it was hailstones.
The size of the hailstones ranged between 50 millimetres and 100 millimetres – the largest ever seen in the area.
Phu Rua district chief Boonterm Renumas said over 500 homes in eight villages were damaged by the hail storm.
