The effects of different crosslinking ions on the thickness and
shrinkage of films are shown in Table 1. It can be seen thatthickness
is closely linked to the shrinkage rate, i.e. – the greater the shrinkage
rate, the thicker the films. This phenomenon may be attributed to
the crosslinking and dissolution of alginate during the crosslinking
process. Alginate films were crosslinked by immersion in a
crosslinking solution. During the entire crosslinking process, the
dissolution of alginate always occurred, and only the speed of dissolution
