Italian Open: Danny Willett heads English trio trailing by a shot
England's Danny Willett, Chris Paisley and Chris Hanson trail by a shot in the Italian Open after play was suspended midway through the third round.
Frenchman Alexander Levy leads on 14 under after carding five birdies and an eagle in 12 holes at Golf Club Milano.
Italian Francesco Molinari joins the English trio at 13 under.
Lengthy weather delays on the opening two days mean the field will return on Sunday to complete their third round and begin the final round.
Masters winner Willett, who was playing with Paisley and Hanson, is finalising his preparations for the Ryder Cup later this month and has had just one bogey through his 44 holes.
While Paisley and Hanson decided to putt out on the ninth green, with the latter making an impressive birdie, Willett will have to hole his putt before taking on the back nine.
Willett told Europeantour.com: "It was tricky to read the greens, with the fading light it's always tough to get the pace.
"I was rolling it pretty good, I just didn't quite get it going and shaved a few holes. So it was a bit frustrating.
"We need a real good day of weather tomorrow because there are a lot of guys with 27 holes, at least, left to play.
"It was just a frustrating nine holes really. I hit it average, not great, but tomorrow is another day."
On Saturday morning, Willett made three birdies in the final five holes of his second round.
Seven of the European Ryder Cup team, which includes Willett, have been competing in Monza.
The other Europe players still in contention are Germany's Martin Kaymer, Spain's Rafael Cabrera-Bello and England's Chris Wood, Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick. Team-mate Lee Westwood missed the cut.
The Ryder Cup against the United States, held at Hazeltine in Minnesota, takes place from 30 September to 2 October.
