With the assistance of two Directors’ of
Nursing, purposive sampling was used to recruit
two groups of nurses from one acute hospital
within EH. Group 1 consisted of NUMs.
Participant eligibility was restricted to those
NUMs who had been employed within the role
for a minimum of 4 weeks. This included nurses
seconded to an Acting NUM position for a minimum
of 4 weeks. The researcher considered that
after 4 weeks within the role, the NUM or Acting
NUM would have some meaningful experiences
to contribute to HRM issues.
