Panels were stored at 15–20 C for 6 days for full cure to take place. Then a 20 mm wide mini-LVL test piece was machined from the middle of the LVL-panel, similar to a small clear test piece (18 · 20 · 600 mm). These mini-LVL test pieces were stiffness tested as joists over a span of 280 mm with the gluelines oriented parallel to the direction of loading (Fig. 1) and the load applied at 5 mm/min. The elastic modulus of each mini-LVL test piece was calculated as previously described in section 2.1. The mean panel stiffness for the veneer sheet was calculated from the 4 mini-LVL test pieces per original veneer sheet. Although a total of 240 mini-LVL test pieces should have been recovered from the 60 veneer sheets, a number were rejected prior to testing due to incomplete bonding or damage so that only 226 test pieces were actually tested.
