In recent years, the interest in soil remediation has increased because
the important role of soil remediation in the sustainability of life and natural
resources in the planet has been recognized. Phytoremediation is an
attractive alternative for soil remediation because it ismore cost-effective
and environmentally friendly than other alternatives. Phytoremediation
consists of the removal of metals by plants through the uptake and accumulation
into biomass (phytoextraction) or even themitigation of the effects
of metals in soil by the exudation of organic material by the plant
roots (phytostabilization)
