A mixture of aldehyde (1 mmol), ethyl acetoacetate (2 mmol) and ammonium carbonate (2 mmol) was stirred in water at 80 °C for 3–5 h. The progress of reaction was monitored through the TLC analysis. After completion of the reaction as indicated by TLC, the mixture was diluted with cold H2O, precipitated product was filtered, washed with distilled water, and crystallized from absolute ethanol.
