26 Jailed for Beating Student
MANILA A Philippine court has sentenced 26 student fraternity members to a maximum of 14 years in prison after a student died in a brutal initiation rite that outraged the nation.
The victim, a 22-year-old law student, died of a heart attack in 2000 after his spinal column was broken and his lungs collapsed during hazing rituals
The 26 who were convicted of homicide in a decision handed down on Wednesday were graduates and students of Ateneo University Law School in Manila, one of the country's most prestigious institutions. Reuters
