The study area (6_290e360N, 3_230e290E) is within the barrier
lagoon coastal area. The Lagos area has been discussed in various
reports and publications made in the past by various workers.
These reports are in most parts not accurate, with much speculation
and conjecture. One of the earliest published works related to
the geology of Lagos was by Russ (1924), who described the underlying
geology of the over 30 km wide strip along the Lagose
Abeokuta railway. Due to the poor exposures of sedimentary successions
within the Lagos area, it has been difficult to know the
subsurface strata and subsequently reconstruct its geology.
Generally, the Coastal Plain Sands and Recent Alluvium of the
Dahomey Basin, South Western Nigeria, underlie the Lagos area.
