It is 40 years that I could not swim. Till April last year, one day at home, I was watching TV. It’s a swimming competition. But all competitors were disabled. Can you imagine how I felt that day? I decided to learn swimming one to one with a trainer instead of a group. For swimming, there are four main strokes, but I told my trainer that three strokes would be enough for me. I started from the first step of swimming, which was how to breathe under water. After that, I learnt freestyle. It was difficult for me to breathe out under water and turn my face to breathe in then turn back in the water. I nearly sank and choked from swallowing water many times. I felt upset and thought of quitting, but the picture of the disables made me continue. Also backstroke and breaststroke, I had a moment when I thought “quit or go” again when I nearly sank and choked. However, I decided to continue and now I’m proud to say “I can swim freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke”. Moreover, I have a plan to learn scuba diving at the end of this year.
