Gas adsorption is where the opposite the opposite process occurs. A liquid stream is contacted with a vapor or gas stream in order to remove one or more components of the liquid stream. This process is also sometimes called stripping. An example is where relatively light hydrocarbons such as benzene and Toluen are normally only used for separation of a solute from a liquid or vapor stream-it is essentially impossible to separate two solutes using this method. To separate two solutes a fractional method (such as distillation or extraction) must be used.
