Post-operative care of the gynecologic patient includes using the standard medical-surgical nursing process taught to all generalist registered nurses. The component that makes gynecologic oncology care unique is the reality of the patient who is dealing with some type of female cancer that is life altering and emotionally devastating. Most cancer patients get the diagnosis, and then quickly have to make decisions about surgery and chemotherapy, not necessarily in that order.
