14.4 Equipment Set Up
14.4.1 Ensure the flume is level.
14.4.2Install the roughened bed sections securely at the bottom of the flume (see model installation section)
14.4.3 Install the bed sections securely at the bottom of the flume(see model inntallation it will the undershot at the discharge end of the flume, raise gate all the way up so not restrict the flow.
14.4.4 Install hooks and point gauges (optional on the channel sides, one at upstream nume, and the other one at downstream, and setup h and point gauge Addendum of the Pont instructions) and and record distance apart x(m)
14.4.5 The datum for all measurements will be at the average height of the roughened bed at of the flume. the bottom
14.5 Experimental Procedures
14.5.1 Turn on the water pump, open the flow control valve, let water flow through the flume. 14.5.2 Maintaining a constant h 50 mm and do not adjust the flow control valve again in order to maintain a constant flow rate throughout the experiment.
14.5.3 Measure the speed by measuring the volume flow rate using the direct reading fow meter, flow indicator, or the measuring tank with a stopwatch
14.5.4 Record the depth of flow yo and above the roughened bed at each end
14.5.5 Calculate the Manning coefficient
14.5.6 Adjust the flow of water into the flume to obtain heads with an increment of 20 mm, record the volume flow rate using the direct reading flow meter, flow indicator, or the measuring tank with a stopwatch, then repeat step 14.5.3 to 14.5.5.
14.6 Result and Conclusion
14.6.1 Calculate A.V.S and R then determine using the Manning Formula for each condition
14.6.2 Polt the Manning coefficient against h.
14.6.3 Does n stay constant?
14.6.4 Compare the average value for n with the values in Table l4-1
