With its subtle play of horizontal and vertical lines this Neoplastic chair became a manifesto for the De Stijl, so that all the parts for its frame fit together overlapping rather than using joints. The primary
colours of the design in tribute to Mondrian’s painting, with its red, blue, yellow and then black for the frame, mark out all the different parts each one with specific functions.
