Brasília
Breakfast (included).
09:00am – City tour.
City tour in Brasília will go through the “Congresso Nacional”, the “Três Poderes” Square (where the “Palácio do Planalto” is, from where the President governs) and the “Palácio da Alvorada”, the President official residence. As we will be visiting administrative and political centers of Brazil, it is important that all students are wearing the trip’s t-shirt.
Since 1810, when Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil, there was a plan to move the capital to the mid west of the country, safer for being away from the sea. In 1960, President Juscelino Kubitschek inaugurated Brasília. The urban design of the new capital was based on two perpendicular axes, which makes the city the shape of an airplane. Many of its buildings were designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, which gives an extra charm to the city.
Lunch (not included). We will have lunch in a mall. Take this time to buy last minute things you may have forgotten to bring.
Visit to the beautiful Cathedral of Brasília, to the “Esplanada dos Ministérios”, to the President Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial (museum designed by Oscar Niemeyer that has remains, some of his belongings and his personal library) and the famous ecumenical temple of LBV (“Legião da Boa Vontade”) where we are going to visit the 7 Points Pyramid with the largest crystal found in Brazil.
Dinner (included).
