One strain of algae-like microorganisms capable of mixotrophic growth was isolated from Tainan (located in Southern Taiwan). Using BLAST software to align and compare the 18S rRNA gene
sequences with other known microorganisms in the GenBank database revealed that this strain exhibited a close phylogenic relationship with the Chlorella family (NCBI number KJ855064), which are microalgae well-known for their high lipid content (Fig. 1). According to the phylogenetic analysis, it is reasonable to identify Y8-1 as Chlorella sp. Y8-1.
