Introduction:
North American mink that are sold for fur products around the world are mostly farmed on controlled farms in Canada and USA. Farming mink in controlled situations can produce a better quality fur for sale in international markets than wild mink fur caught in traps in the northern parts of Canada. The farmed mink were at one time caught in traps many years ago but through selective breeding programs are now almost farmed exclusively. The size of farmed mink vary but average about 1.5 kilograms for a female and 3 kilograms for a male.
