Diagnostic tools
In some patients the diagnosis is not clear and other
methods of diagnosis might be needed, like EUA and
MRI scanning. Only 5 patients in our study had MRI scans.
Those were requested to rule out any collection not visible
clinically. In all of them, the MRI did not show any collection
and did not add anything to the initial clinical diagnosis.
We could not find any study in the literature directed at
the use of MRI in such patients. From our limited experience
we believe that MRI should not be routinely done in
such patients. It can be used in cases of uncertainty about
the diagnosis or the presence of collection. EUA might be indicated in some patients where examination is very painful
or inadequate without anesthesia.
