With the vast introduction of new technology in the market, educators have the opportunity to increase the value and effectiveness of educational software. This study was designed to field-test Equivalent Fractions , a computer-assisted instruction software program created using Macromedia Director 8. The researcher developed Equivalent Fractions , with a specific focus on fraction equivalence. A field-test was conducted by the researcher at an elementary school in Long Beach, California. Twenty second-grade students participated in the study. The project employed a pre-test/post-test design. Pre-test and post-test means and standard deviations were calculated, and a paired t-test for correlated scores was completed. Post-test scores and results of the study indicated that the CAI program Equivalent Fractions was successful in improving test scores and increasing the knowledge of the students in the study. The users enhanced their understanding, thereby demonstrating that Equivalent Fractions is an effective tool.
