Could frequent eating cure your food addiction ?
The final chemical controlled by eating little and often is neuropeptide Y (NPY). This isn't strictly a hormone, but a protein that stimulates cravings for carbohydrates. Oddly, if you get too hungry and then eat carbohydrate-based foods, instead of the levels of NPY going down, they actually increase causing you go binge, and you one-biscuit treat turns into a diet-destroying four, five or more. This then starts to become a habit, causing you to crave those foods every time you get hungry, and before you know it your once-a-week chocolate bar has become a daily occurrence. By eating regularly, however, you never have an empty stomach and these cravings are kept in check before they can even start. For many people, this alone could be the key to ultimate weight loss.
