Hyaluronic acid (hyaluronan) is a linear polysaccharide with
repeating disaccharide unites glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine
without a protein core (Fraser et al., 1997). Hyaluronic
acid is also an important constituent of extracellular matrix (ECM),
principally because of its ability to bind volumes of water into a
viscous and gelatin-like matrix (Le Baron et al., 1992).
