Many farmers consider a CSA out of a desire to reduce
time spent selling farm products during the production
season. Preparing a set number of CSA shares and delivering
them to a certain location can potentially result in less
time and expense than other marketing methods, such as
marketing at a farmers market or roadside stand, leaving
more time for the farmer to concentrate on production.
Producers may also be able to leverage marketing time
by having customers pick up shares at a farmers market
where the farmer will already be marketing additional
products.
