Rubin and Henderson (1982) examined the relation-ship between handwriting performance and five motor skills as measured by five fine motor items of the Test of Motor Impairment (TMI) (Stott, Moyes, & Henderson, 1972). The poor writers were not significantly poorer at fine motor skills than the control children, but a greater variability of scores was noted among the poor writers. It should be noted that each item of the TMI has a limited range of scores, that is, either "below normal" or "nor-ma!." As a result, the test may not be sensitive enough to pick up differences.
