Medical and healthcare sciences evolve at a fast pace and disseminating or acquiring knowledge is a long lasting task [14], [15]. Relevant surveys indicate that results from clinical trials are not efficiently disseminated to practicing physicians and, therefore, not adopted into daily practice. Moreover, in nowadays, more and more stakeholders use technology to advance personal education and involvement in medical and healthcare practice. In the following paragraphs we will review the adoption of ICT technologies towards effective dissemination of health related knowledge. At first, we present the available Web 2.0 tools and successful 3D Virtual World case studies. Then, we attempt a literature review and classification according to dimensions that stem from the implementations’ functionality.
