Agricultural occupations, including planting, animal raising, and fishery were the
main livelihood of people in 11 villages. Most of farmers, however, had to acquire loans
for their productions from credit institutions and even from local money lenders, who
charged very high interest rate for the loans. This created problem of having severe debts
among the people. Lack of ownership of land was another problem of farmers. It limited
the choice of agriculture and forced them only to sell their labor daily in the field. Some of
them chose to work in factories outside their villages and left their children at home,
which created juvenile problems and the spread of drug addictions among the youths.
