An author interested in the passage of time reflected in the stores and shops he found in the rural towns in the Argentine Pampas. Many of these businesses still function as they used to 100 years ago, while others have had no option but to close. After 10 years of photographing, he has witnessed their struggles and fates. As the last generation of old folk vanish, so do these beautiful buildings. Photographer sees them as an extension of their owners’ lives; their histories are embedded in the walls, tools and furniture. They are monuments to hard work and love for their place in the world. It speaks to him of the dignity and pride attached to a life dedicated to doing something and doing it well.

Guillermo Srodek-Hart born in 1977. He earned a BFAD from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and an MFA from Mass College of Art in Boston. He was awarded the Klemm Prize in 2005 and the Petrobrás Award 2006, both in Argentina. Photographer participated in the Biennale of the End of the World in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, KMoPA’s “Young Portfolio Acquisitions” Japan, and in 2013 he represented Argentina in the IILA Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in Italy. Most recently he has shown in the 2nd Biennale de Montevideo in Uruguay and will show at the 1st Biennale de Arte de Asunción, Paraguay. Srodek-Hart has participated in fairs such as ARCO, Paris Photo and PULSE. His work is in the collections of Fundación Petrobras, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, North Dakota Museum of Art, Berman Collection, and Poniatowski Collection. His first monograph is to be published in April 2015 by Prestel.
