However, it was apparent to the university mentors and the dean emeritus that all but one of the teachers were initially resistant, fearful, and resentful of the ‘‘intrusion’’ of the university team. After the first year, one teacher was asked to resign and another was moved to the preschool program due to unwillingness to support the
improvement plan. At the end of the second year, another teacher was asked to resign. The dean emeritus, as acting principal, led the hiring process to replace these teachers. She collaborated with the mentors as well as the school board. The addition of new teachers to the K–5 school changed the school climate by enhancing the relationship between the university mentors and the K–5 teachers.
