Information Technology to Upgrade WD’s Global Information Security Infrastructure July 3 – 5, 2015
WD remote access will not be available during this upgrade.*
Before you leave for shutdown, please save your work and power down your PC! This includes Lab PCs!
WD Team,
As you should be aware, the Information Technology (IT) team will be working to improve WD’s information security infrastructure to better protect it against more advanced threats by implementing a stronger password policy for users and applications. This will include implementing two-factor authentication for remote access users, and strengthening security measures on WD’s network and systems. Cisco AnyConnect combined with Symantec VIP will be implemented for remote access as of July 6.
System Security Upgrade
The upgrade work will begin on Friday, July 3, from 5 p.m. PDT through Sunday, July 5, at 5 p.m. This will require that we disconnect WD (the entire company) from the Internet during the security upgrade timeframe. Some non-mission critical systems and applications may take longer to restore to service.
*Important: To reiterate, there will be no remote access available – no VPN, no OWA/Webmail, no Active Synch (smart phone synch to email) during this upgrade.
PC users in offices and labs are asked to save their work and power down their computers prior to leaving for shutdown or when they complete their work on Friday, July 3, to enable the upgrades to occur. This does not apply to laptop users who take their systems home. PCs left on will be re-booted prior to July 6.
As a reminder, you will receive a temporary password when you return to work on July 6. Be thinking about what you would like your new 15-character password to be. Remember, you’ll need one numeral, one uppercase letter, and one special character within the 15 character password.
For more information, on the IT Security Update, please see the FAQ on MyNet.
IT is notifying each site about the temporary password distribution process.
