Flooding is a common feature under flood plain
(diara lands) conditions. Moisture conditions vary from
flooding to saturated levels up to the month of February
in medium to heavy textured soils. After this fields
start reaching field capacity with increase in evaporation
and concomitant fall in ground water table. Survey of
the flood plains after the flood water recede, reveals
that there seems to be no better choice of a crop other
than sugarcane for such conditions since these will be
total failures. Sugarcane is the only remunerative crop
which promises at least some assured returns in water
logged conditions. Of course the extent of damage of
this crop is relatively the least even if the crop is
subjected to water logging at grand growth phase during
Jul2r to September which coincides with the flooding
period.
