were a new species ether of Rothmannia or possinly of some other closely related genus, but i could draw no further conclusions at the time. Due to the diligent collecting of Mr K. Vollesen (then based at the Miombo Research Centre, Dar es Salaam), flowering speciments became available. The flowers are precocious and show several other striking differences from Rothmannia. The speciments proved to be conspecific with two other from Malawi (one determined as cf. Feretia and one undetermined)
All speciments cited in this account have been seen unless otherwise stated.
