The following is the lower portion of a counting and ordering progress map. The map shows examples of knowledge, skills, and understandings in the sequence in which they are generally expected to develop from grades 1 through 5. This type of map is useful for tracking the progress of an individual child over time. An evaluation using tasks designed to tap specific performances on the map can provide a “snapshot” showing where a student is located on the map, and a series of such evaluations is useful for assessing a student’s progress over the course of several years.
