The tablets used in Thai schools will run the Android operating system, as developed by Google. Usually Android applications are developed using Java and the Android SDK, but in this project Adobe Flash CS5 will be used. The reason for selecting Flash is that educational applications for primary school are graphic and animation intensive, and Flash provides powerful tools for this purpose. The CS5 tools also contain a powerful object-oriented programming language called ActionScript 3 (AS3) that enables highly interactive applications to be developed. With these tools it is possible to build educational activities and games that can be deployed on Android (as well as iOS and the web).
