In Fig. 2b, the thermogram of Ecobras (commercial blend of PBAT and starch) shows three weight loss steps: (i) the first at 112 1C, corresponding to onset of water loss; (ii) the second loss at 230 1C, corresponding to initial degradation of the starch; and (iii) the third loss at 380 1C, corresponding to initial degradation PBAT. The addition of 4% P-VMT and VMT to Ecobras resulted in a slight increase in thermal stability of composites S2 and S3 when compared to the pure matrix. For composites S2 and S3, the initial temperatures of thermal decomposition at 10% weight loss were 289 1C and 291 1C, respectively, compared to 272 1C for the pure matrix, suggesting that P-VMT and VMT interact preferentially with the starch phase. Interestingly, the S3 composite showed the lowest moisture absorption.
