3) Where the rope cannot be looped back on itself because of the rope diameter, then a small length of the rope can be attached to the dead end (See ATTACHMENT #1)
4) The following points should also be observed:
• When transferring wire rope from reel to drum, every precaution should be taken to avoid twists and kinks.
• When reeve hook blocks on cranes capable of height extension, special care should be taken to provide sufficient length of the hoist rope to accommodate the weight in use at the time and still leave the statutory two full turns on the drum when the hook is in its lowest working position. In addition, the rope must be secured to the drum.
• Ropes should lay correctly on all winding drums. Uneven winding causes gaps in the layers, which produce undue wear and tear. (See ATTACHMENT #1)
• Wherever ropes need to be renewed or replaced, the replacement must be new, and of correct size and construction per manufacturer’s specifications.
