That’s a difficult one, Lizzie! When I need a holiday, I think the aeroplane is the best invention ever, but when I need to speak to my colleague in America, I think it’s the telephone. And, when I’m working, I think the computer is the most important thing anybody has ever made. The way we assess inventions depends on where we are and what we’re doing, doesn’t it? What I do know, however, is that everything, from the air conditioner to the zip, was a brilliant invention when it first appeared.
