About Angus
Angus is a 4-year-old blue male doberman who is looking for a very special home, because he's a very special dog who seeks the following:
(1) An experienced Doberman owner who is devoted to the breed and is familiar with its intelligence and can interpret his actions.
(2) A person who is active and will keep Angus busy by taking the time to interact with him physically, but most importantly, intellectually.
(3) No other pets.
(4) No children.
(5) Willing to consistently train with positive reinforcement.
(6) A household where rules are set and enforced and where Angus is not given freedom to take over.
Why do we have so may rigid requirements for Angus? Because Angus is too smart for his own good. But he has so much potential because he is so smart! He is quite the character and in some ways very humanistic. Like a person, Angus has his good days and bad days. On his good days he is ON and wants to work, is super gung ho, and responds exuberantly to everything you ask of him. On his occasional bad days he can be stubborn and seems to be trying to say, "this is my day off; don't bother me!" But no matter what day it is, Angus loves companionship, playing, and giving kisses.
Angus is easy to keep busy and entertain. He's not into fetch or running around as much as he is into just having somebody near him while he exercises his jaws on his favorite toys. Just give him a squishy toy, and he will be content to just chew it as long as you are there to keep him company. So relax and watch the show he will put on for you.
Angus is housebroken, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. He is very confident, takes treats gently from your hand, is attentive to his handler, LOVES car rides, and is good in public places and on leash. He is 99% perfect! That missing 1% relates to resource guarding of certain objects that he feels are high value. On the positive side, there are solutions (e.g., classical conditioning) to overcome this behavior and Angus is already on the road to recovery! However, he needs a forever home that will continue to work with him by managing the environment and continuing his training.
