First, this family was very kind and generous. The meals were great. Everyone seemed to get along well. I enjoyed working together cleaning, making food, helping with umeboshi, and helping make juice. Uekado San's family made me feel very welcome, even though I couldn't understand very well.
I enjoyed making deliveries with Uekado San and having coffee and tasting many senbei. I had my first hanami picnic with the Uekado family! It was like a dream!
That being said, I highly recommend other WWOOFERs speak at least a little Japanese. No one here speaks English, but that's ok. (just not what their profile page said when I first contacted them!)
Also, this farm is very deep in the country, which is very beautiful, but there is not so much to do by yourself on days off. Luckily, you can do fun things with the family. :)
I felt bad, my Japanese was not as good as I thought and we had some miscommunication. But everyone is very kind and helpful and ready to talk if you're not too shy (I was too shy, maybe.)
I hope they don't think I wasted their time. I mostly enjoyed these different experiences, but in the end, I went home early because I don't speak Japanese so well and I wanted to understand more about farming. I came at the wrong season for harvesting. It's my fault that I had problems. I recommend this farm for more than one WWOOFer, a pair of friends or a group. It would be more fun that way.
I appreciate that the family welcomed me anyway. Thank you for everything and good luck with the farm!!
