The commitment demonstrated by these initial 10 businesses, and the success achieved during this inital phase oft he project has shown us how impactful this type of program can be in Chiang Khong, and serves as the motivation for expansion. These 10 businesses participated in 4 different workshops for business owners and engaged 46 employees in trainings which raised awareness on issues of child labor and human trafficking. As a result, business leaders and community members employed by participating businesses gained a greater understanding of human trafficking issues, local and national labor laws, warning signs, and where to report suspicious activity. One of CFG’s greatest strengths in the execution of this program was the ability to develop a network of businesses, schools, government officials, and other enterprises that serves as a watchdog within the community, fighting trafficking and CSEC. In the next phase, CFG will expand this network, in not only size by increasing the number of businesses involved from 10 to 50 but also in scope by including hotels and different types of businesses in Chiang Khong.
